School Trip to Angoulême

Angouleme Bande Dessinée

A school trip to Angoulême is a experience not to be missed!

From the ancient castle where Marguerite de Valois was born, to the Romanesque Cathedral dedicated to Saint Peter, Angoulême displays its rich architectural heritage at each street corner.

Angoulême stands on a rocky outcrop 80m above the River Charente at a point where the river has created a large meander. Occupied from prehistoric times, the city’s defensive wall was erected in the days of the late Roman Empire.

Later on, it became the seat of the Counts Taillefer, Lusignan and Valois, the site of never-ending conflicts during the wars of religion, an important river port until the 19th century and now the capital of the Bande Dessinée (comic strips, cartoons and illustrations). School trip to Angoulême participants will enjoy visiting The Centre National de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image (Angoulême’s  cartoon and multimedia museum) and discovering the many images painted on various building facades throughout the city.
